Find it hard to leave your baby with someone else?The Post and Ante-Natal Distress Support Group (Wellington) Inc. (PND) has been offering support, education, and information to women with post or ante-natal distress in the Wellington region since 1989. It was formed by women with experience of PND, is entirely funded by grants and donations, and aside from the Coordinators, is staffed by volunteers. They are a good place to start if you are feeling distressed, and offer a range of services, including: Support, education, and information for women and their partners, whanau/family Community education and professional consultationOur services include: Telephone support line: 04 472 3135 Available 7 days, 9am - 9pm. Trained volunteers offer clients free and confidential support. Initial calls are answered via a message service that will relay your contact details to the Co-ordinator. Support Guide
for a copy of our Post & Ante Natal Distress Support GuideOne-to-one counselling The group has contact with a number of counsellors available who offer subsidised face-to-face counselling. Structured support/education groups for women Education/support groups for women experiencing post or ante natal distress are run throughout the Wellington region (Kapiti, Hutt Valley, Porirua/Mana, and Wellington suburbs). Each group runs for 8 weeks, and is facilitated by a trained counsellor. Baby sitting facilities are available. There is no charge for attendance but a donation would be gratefully received. The groups provide an opportunity to: Understand and make sense of your experience of PND. Think about some different strategies to help manage your experience. Share with other women, feel less isolated, and be more positive about yourself again.
Groups for partners
Short-term evening groups for partners are currently run once or twice a year.
Education, information, and liaison
PND have a comprehensive lending library of relevant books and publications/written resources. PND produce a quarterly newsletter. PND produce and distribute the PND Support Guide and information leaflets. PND organise educational presentations to mothers' groups, support agencies, and networks.
